It’s the end of an era for Louis Vuitton’s Takashi Murakami bags—those colourful monogram prints that once accessorized shoulders of celebutantes like Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Jessica Simpson alongside Juicy Couture tracksuits. The line made its first appearance at Marc Jacob’s Spring 2003 show for Louis Vuitton, and soon after became the envy of every teen growing up in the early 2000s (not to mention the trendiest home your Chihuahua could ask for). Now, 12 years later, Women’s Wear Daily has announced that the last of the brand’s popular collaboration will cease to exist in stores by the end of July.
The colourful print is one of the last legacies left behind by Marc Jacobs, predecessor to Vuitton’s creative director Nicholas Ghesquiere, who has been reshaping the brand with sophisticated backpacks and modern leather box bags since.
Although we’re sad to see such an iconic bag go, a selection of the bright coloured signature LV bags are still available for purchase online if you’re feeling a little nostalgic. But like our favourite early 2000s pieces, it’s about time we move on to bigger and better things.
