Fresh off his departure as artistic director at Balenciaga, Alexander Wang is venturing into the world of cuffs, earrings, necklaces and bike chains with his first ever jewelry collection. Yes, you read that correctly.

Inspired by the industrial bike chains that can be found in copious amounts around the streets of New York City, Wang’s collection, which first appeared on the runway at his spring 2016 show, includes a small three-piece collection of chunky, three-link bike chain earrings, a double-lock necklace, and a lock-hinge cuff bracelet. The collection is brass, plated with palladium or gold, making it both tough and delicate.

Wang already has an extensive selection of objects under his belt (see: coaster sets, ashtrays, furniture, travel neck pillows, canteens and “do not disturb” door signs), but this will be his first venture into jewelry.

“I always wanted to do jewelry, but I never felt like I had the opportunity,” Wang tells WWD. “I’ve had my hands quite full. But I really got exposed to it when I went to Balenciaga and I really enjoyed the process.”

Prices for Wang’s jewelry offering range from $295 to $525, and will be available later this month at the designer’s stand-alone stores before expanding to outside retailers in the spring.
